Camps that challenge the whole athlete

THE DIFFERENCE IS IN THE PRIDE FOR OUR STATE

From the remote town of Kodiak to eventually playing professionally in Germany and Australia, it has become Coach Alysa’s mission to inspire other Alaskan youth to what is possible for them through uncommon commitment to something they are passionate about and believe in.

Winter Break Basketball Camp & 3v3 Tournament

December 30th - January 2nd, 2025

The camp focuses on optimizing player experience with age appropriate skill development for the first two hours of camp, and then 3v3 games the last hour of each day, culminating in a tournament on the last day.

This is a quality focused event; therefore, we are only accepting 48 athletes per camp. We prefer athletes have at least two years playing experience!

Congratulations to our Amelia Nowak & Derek Duerr Award WInners

These awards are given in the memory of Amelia Nowak and Derek Duerr, local student athletes lost to a drunk driver in August of 2022. These awards serve to honor student athletes that demonstrate outstanding leadership traits, sportsmanship, service to others and love of the game.

Chosen by their peers and coaches, with the support and blessing of Amelia and Derek’s families, these athletes received these awards because we saw their commitment to improvement by working hard, allowing themselves to be coached by others and recognizing that all they do today is an investment for their future. They treated others with kindness and consideration, remained positive when things got tough and showed respect and genuine care for their teammates and coaches.

One of Amelia’s passions was collecting interesting rocks, minerals, shells and crystals. The award presented today to our female student athletes, Grace Harder (CPC) & Macey Melovidov (VPC), is a Kyanite crystal. Kyanite is often considered the “Crystal of Connection” - inspiring loyalty and the fair treatment of others as well as enhancing communication between people.

The award presented to our male student athlete, Durrell Vaaia (CPC) & Kirby Gallagher (VPC), is a quartz crystal agate. It is often considered the “Crystal of Courage and Harmony”, and it is a beautiful reminder of the traits he brought to his team.

Amelia & Derek, you are not forgotten 💙

Alysa Horn training in Fairbanks, Alaska at Monroe Catholic High School

“I have been coaching and running camps for the past 27 years and Coach Horn is one of the best clinicians I have worked with. Her unique combination of knowledge and ability to teach separate her from others. As great a trainer as she is, she is a better human being. Coach Horn genuinely cares about those she works with and is committed to helping everyone reach their full potential from a physical, mental, and skill standpoint. Her compassion, sense of humor and concern go far beyond helping a person get into better shape or dribble a basketball better.”

Coach Frank Ostanik, Monroe Catholic High School Athletic Director & Boys HC
